HOW TO STAY LEVEL HEADED WHEN HIT WITH CHANGE

How to stay level headed when hit with change

Change can be daunting, but it is inevitable. In my professional life recently, change (big change) has become a daily occurrence, and through this experience I have learnt that you have to embrace it to make it! Below are my tips on staying level headed when hit with change.

DEFINE THE CHANGE
I find clearly defining the change and consequently what that means for you, helps you to understand the situation you have been put into. When everything is all a bit up in the air you can feel overwhelmed and therefore feel like you aren't coping, so sit down and figure out what has changed and how this will affect you. It's probably better than you think.

YOU CANT PREDICT THE FUTURE
My next tip is to understand that you cannot predict the future, you may be in a negative spiral after hearing the news. Take yourself away from the situation, calm down, and think logically. There are often many ways the change could lead you, and you now have the opportunity to lead it in the direction you want.

USE IT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE
This leads me to my third bit of advice; you can mould the future! Having collected all the facts, figured out the potential options, you can now use this to your advantage and mould the direction this change happens. Think of your colleague leaving, is that an opportunity for you to take on more responsibility and create the career you always dreamed of? Probably, yes!

GO WITH THE FLOW
Change in life is inevitable, and as one friend once told me 'If you don't embrace it, you'll be running away forever'. I love that bit of advice as its so true, and really hit home with me recently. Change can be for the good, or for the worse, but you won't know until it happens. Eventually everything will work out, just hold yourself high, and go with the flow.

I hope you liked this post, something a little different from me this week!
Do you have any other tips to help cope with change? Either in your professional or personal life?
